Technology
Keep it simple. Understand what you run. Stay in control.
I’ve been using open-source software for more than 20 years. For me, it is more than a choice of software: it’s a way of thinking about technology.
I prefer systems I can understand, configure and maintain myself. No unnecessary complexity, no black boxes when an open solution will do.
FreeBSD & OpenBSD
My servers run on FreeBSD and OpenBSD. I value their clear design, consistency, security-oriented approach and the Unix philosophy.
I prefer building a reliable system from well-understood components rather than adding layers of software I don’t really need.
My own infrastructure
I run and maintain my own services, including:
- Web server — hosting my personal website and projects.
- Mail server — managing my own email infrastructure.
- Personal cloud — self-hosted services and data under my control.
- Server security and maintenance — configuration, certificates, updates, logs and troubleshooting.
Running your own infrastructure means taking responsibility for it. That’s part of the appeal: understanding the whole system, from the operating system to the service exposed to the internet.
Linux Mint at home
My everyday desktop runs Linux Mint. It gives me a comfortable working environment while staying close to the open-source ecosystem I prefer.
The same principle applies everywhere: use tools that solve the problem, keep the setup understandable and avoid complexity for its own sake.
KISS
Keep It Simple, Stupid.
KISS is not about avoiding useful technology. It’s about knowing why each component exists and resisting complexity that brings little value.
Simple systems are easier to understand, troubleshoot, maintain and rebuild.
Notes from the real world
This section is where I document practical configurations, commands, fixes and lessons learned while running my own systems.
These are notes from real experiments and real maintenance — including mistakes, unexpected problems and the solutions that eventually worked.
Open source. Self-hosted. Keep it simple.
